i laughed for hours . . .

May 12, 2008

even though i know that was the wrong thing to do. i couldn’t help it, i have been feeling so down lately i really needed to crack-up for a little while. this is the phone call i got today:

a prenatal patient called to ask if she can have a “dna test.” i said, “what do you mean ‘dna test’?” she says, “i want to test the baby’s dna tested.” i told her “do you think there is something wrong with the baby? because the only type of ‘dna test’ would be an amniocentesis which is only done because of medical necessity.” she said, “no the baby is fine, it’s the baby daddy who has a problem.”

i will spare you all from the remainder of the conversation. apparently the “baby daddy” is denying paternity. unfortunately she is going to have to wait until after the birth to obtain a paternity test. and, oh boy, will she be disappointed when she learns that state medicaid will not pay for a dna paternity test. she will just have to get a spot on “maury.”
